immigration in the nation

Before starting the immigration unit I had an idea of some of their statistics. After further research I found more information that interested and surprised me. I didn't know that illegal workers contribute billions of dollars in tax revenue as well as support to our social security and medicare systems. I feel that SB1070 is a violation of human rights in many ways. I never agreed with its proposal and I think its just a front. I haven't heard any positive news that has come from Arizona since. The bill itself didn't make sense because of all its legal jargon, but what I did understand still didn't seem logically correct. I definitely feel more informed after the research and discussions we've had throughout the unit.

Thursday's Prompt

I have mixed feelings about SB1070, I don't live in Arizona, but I'm sure that we are exposed to just as many immigrant workers here in California. Part of me thinks it's unfair to these immigrants inregards to their human rights, but on the other hand, they're breaking the law by coming into our country undocumented. I don't think they're taking jobs from American's because the jobs that theyre doing is labor that the average American is not willing to take. They're pay wouldn't suffice American's minimum wages and the labor along with its conditions are too harsh. I dont believe that even in a recession American workers would still not be willing to work in the conditions immigrant labors are working in.
